ARC College of Experts Nominations 2018

Updated 11/05/2017

The Australian Research Council (ARC) is seeking nominations from suitably qualified and experienced individuals in all disciplines and strong emphasis will be placed on multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary expertise. However, this call for nominations is made with particular interest in a number of focussed areas (see list on CoE Nomination Kit).

The ARC is committed to improving the gender balance of membership on ARC selection committees and encourages women to nominate. In addition, nominations from people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin, and from end-users across the private, public and not-for profit sectors are particularly encouraged. Please note that international nominees are eligible to apply on condition that they are able to obtain an Australian visa.

ARC & NHMRC Application Process 2017/18

Updated 12/05/2017

The 2016 Review of Research Services recommended that that Research Services establish a best practice ARC/NHMRC grants development program incorporating external peer review. The DVCRI Professor Leigh Sullivan approved this process for all FedUni administered ARC & NHMRC grant applications.  This process includes the submission of an ARC & NHMRC Grant EOI form.

For externally administered ARC and NHMRC grant applications, please submit the standard Grant Expression of Interest (GEOI) form once reviewed and approved by your ADR.

The benefits of undertaking this process include:

  • To ensure that applicants are provided with appropriate support to develop their applications;
  • To ensure that applications are reviewed appropriately to ensure that, if they are to be submitted, they are of competitive quality; and
  • To ensure that FedUni’s reputation is not compromised by the submission of non-competitive applications, nor that undue time is spent on developing applications that are unlikely to be competitive.

The process for all FedUni administered ARC Discovery Program, ARC Linkage Program (exc. LIEF) and NHMRC rounds is as follows:

  1. An Expression of Interest must be submitted to Research Services by the advertised date for the scheme being applied for.  This EOI must be on the ARC & NHMRC Grant EOI form provided via the links below. The DVCRI and the appropriate ADR will meet to decide EOI outcomes. If the EOI is approved to progress, the full application will need to pass through the following steps in order:
  2. Two peer reviews (arranged by applicant);
  3. An external review for comment and subsequent reviews if required (arranged by Research Services);
  4. Approval by the DVCRI to proceed to submission stage;
  5. Research Services compliance and budget check;
  6. Approval for final submission.

Expression of Interest (EOI) forms can be downloaded here:

Grant-EOI ARC NHMRC form v1 (pdf 230kb)

Grant-EOI ARC NHMRC form v1 (word doc 130kb)

Submission to the RO via RMS or RGMS is considered confirmation from the applicant that their proposal is ready for endorsement and submission to the funding body.

However, Research Services staff can be contacted at any time during the process to discuss any aspect of an application.

Continuous ARC Linkage Rounds 2017

Updated 12/05/2017

As of 1 July 2016, the Australian Research Council (ARC) changed the way they run the Linkage Projects (LP) Scheme, to move it from an annual round to a continuous application round.

Assessment and announcement of outcomes may be “fast-tracked” where possible. Please see 'Important Dates' page on the ARC website at http://www.arc.gov.au/important-dates

The ARC Linkage Project time frames are designed so that applicants can submit an ARC & NHMRC Grant EOI form at any time of year. Please ensure you submit our ARC & NHMRC Grant EOI form well in advance of your planned submission date as per below. Please also be aware of the LP17 deadline for EOIs (for applications to be submitted in 2017).

For externally administered ARC and NHMRC grant applications, please submit the standard Grant Expression of Interest (GEOI) form which has been reviewed and approved by your ADR.

Process for FedUni administered Linkage proposals

  1. Lead FedUni Investigator Submits ARC & NHMRC Grant EOI form to Research Services.
  2. Receives Authorisation within 2 weeks from DVCRI and Faculty ADR to develop application.
  3. Lead FedUni Investigator drafts application and incorporates comments from two peer reviewers.
  4. Lead FedUni Investigator submits submission-ready draft with indicative budget and two peer reviewer comments to research.funding@federation.edu.au for External Review.
  5. External review comments returned to Lead FedUni Investigator (2-4 weeks).
  6. Lead FedUni Investigator informs Research Funding Team of probable final submission date.
  7. Researcher submits amended and final submission-ready draft with indicative budget and reviewer comments to research.funding@federation.edu.au. Compliance & budget review returned within 5 business days.
  8. DVCRI authorises submission and Research Funding Team submits to the ARC (5 business days).

The following supporting docs must also be submitted to research.funding@federation.edu.au with the final application (see step 7 above):

Submission to the RO via RMS is considered confirmation from the applicant that their proposal is ready for endorsement and submission to the ARC.
