Professor Peter Hodgson

Research Leader

Deakin University

Professor Peter Hodgson, Victoria’s first Australian Laureate Fellow, brings vast research expertise to the CRN in the fields of lightweight metals and future materials. He says being involved in the CRN allows Deakin to fulfil a major goal of the university: that of helping create new industries, products and jobs in regional Victoria.

Professor Hodgson heads up the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) at Deakin. Based on the University’s Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong, IFM is home to a number of exciting research facilities and projects.

It research in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing processes, working with a wide range of local, national and international partners has led to breakthroughs in fundamental science as well as technology uptake and spin-off companies. These skills will be brought to the CRN research program.

“Through that we will ensure that the CRN is able to fulfil its goal to provide leadership in Regional Science and Technological Innovation through information analysis and optimisation of systems and technology.”
