Associate Professor Alan York
University of Melbourne
Associate Professor Alan York is looking to create more ecologically sustainable fire management strategies in his leadership of the University of Melbourne’s Fire and Biodiversity Research Program and his work with the CRN.
Associate Professor York’s research into the interactions between fire, landscape pattern and biodiversity are areas of particular importance to regional Victoria. Through this research he aims to develop a better understanding of how disturbance regimes alter the nature and spatial pattern of resources, and how plants and animals respond to these changes. This knowledge would help land managers tailor their practices to promote sustainability. It will also provide the CRN with valuable information on one of its core areas of interest: regional landscape change.
