Professor Colin Barrow
Professor Colin Barrow is Chair of Biotechnology at Deakin University and also Director of the Centre for Chemistry and Biotechnology (CCB). He has a research group of 18 PhD students and 8 Postdoctoral fellows working in the areas of peptide and protein nanomaterials and food chemistry and biotechnology.
Professor Barrow has extensive international collaborations, particularly in India and China.
Previously he was Executive Vice President of Research and Development for Ocean Nutrition Canada (ONC) where he led the development of seafood-derived supplement and healthy food ingredients and technologies. Prior to ONC Professor Barrow was a faculty member in the School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, and has also spent a decade in the Japanese and American Biotech and Pharmacueticals industries in the area of Natural Products Drug Discovery.
Professor Barrow has a Ph.D. in marine natural products chemistry from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and an MBA from Penn State in the USA. Professor Barrow has approximately 140 peer-reviewed publications, several patents, has presented at numerous conferences and workshops. He has served as a member of the Expert Advisory Committee for Canadian Natural Health Product Directorate (NHPD), is on the Executive and is a founding member of International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF), and has been a Member of Board of Directors for International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL).
