1. ARC linkage LP15 workshop – compulsory for all internal applicants

This year's LP15 Workshop for all internal applicants will be held at both the Ballarat and Gippsland campuses via video conference. This workshop will be run by the Research Funding Team within Research Services. Please note that LP15 applicants listed on external applications are welcome to attend and present upon RSVP. The preliminary details of this workshop are as follows:

Purpose: This workshop will involve applicant presentations of draft proposals to a panel of experts. Panel members will provide feedback based on their career experience, knowledge of category 1 proposals and academia. Timing allocations for presentations are TBC, though at this stage we anticipate that each applicant will be allocated 10 – 20 minutes to present.

Date and time: Wednesday 24 September 1.30pm – 4.30pm (finish time TBC)

Location: Room F200 (Ballarat) and Room 1S210 (Gippsland).  Afternoon tea will be provided.

Draft proposal submissions: Draft proposals are due to research.funding@federation.edu.au by Thursday 11 September 2014.  There is no required format for draft proposals, though a word document is preferable.  As a guide, the following information should be included in draft proposals:

  • Proposed title
  • Summary and impact statement
  • Part C – Project description (based on the most recent guidelines/sample application form).  This includes:
    • Title
    • Aims and background
    • Significance and innovation
    • Approach and training
    • Research environment
    • Partner organisation commitment and collaborations
    • Role of personnel
    • References (not compulsory at this stage)
  • Draft budget – on the day, please present this in the form of a PowerPoint slide or a document that can be viewed on a PC.  Please include partner org commitments (cash and in-kind)

The internal deadline for full proposals will be announced soon after the ARC announcement of the RMS closing date for LP15 proposals.

This workshop will be an invaluable opportunity for LP15 applicants to discuss their proposal with peers and panel members and give and receive feedback. We would appreciate contributions to feedback discussions from applicants for the presentations of colleagues.  Applicants who are unable to attend must still submit a draft proposal for review.

Please RSVP to research.funding@federation.edu.au by Friday 29 August 2014.  Further information including an agenda for this workshop is to follow. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Tina or Jane:

2. ARC rejoinder information session

ARC Discovery and DECRA assessor reports are due to be released in June and July 2014 for all DP15 and DE15 proposals. All those who submitted a DP15 or DE15 proposal this year are strongly encouraged to submit a rejoinder to address assessor comments and concerns.

The FedUni 'How to write a rejoinder' session held on the 23 June 2014 had a great turn out and included some vital tips and guidelines for writing and submitting an ARC rejoinder, as well as important information on ARC assessment procedures. For those who could not make it to the session, please see the Power Point presentation below:
