The Mt Helen Library has several collections that are not on the open shelves and that require supervised access. The Research Collection includes these collections, and is housed in the Geoffrey Blainey Research Centre. The Research Collection holds items by or about Federation University Australia; works on the history of Central and Western Victoria, Eureka Stockade, industrial heritage, especially local, and the history or operation of mines and mining in Australia.
The Research Collection also holds rare or valuable works that are donated to or purchased by the Library and other important items that are deemed to be too fragile to sit on the open shelves.
Photocopying from material in the Research Collection material is restricted to items published after 1900 which will not be likely to suffer from damage or deteriorate if copied. Please check with staff before photocopying.
Items from the Research Collection cannot be borrowed from the Library. Items must be used within the Blainey reading room only. To make an appointment to access the Research Collection material please contact the Library.
