Describe the most enjoyable and challenging aspects of your job

As a continuous participant and contributor to the spatial sciences in Victoria since 1973, I have had the pleasure of being involved in key projects such as GPSnet, GDA94 and AuScope that are delivering tangible benefits to industry and the wider community.

The changes wrought by these projects have challenged the practices of some traditional professions and at the same time challenged my approaches to change management.

What are your strongest memories while you were studying at the University of Ballarat?

My strongest memories while studying at the University of Ballarat were the field trips and projects conducted throughout Victoria and NSW with fellow lecturers and students investigating aspects of soil, vegetation and geology that were important in motivating me to help deliver major spatial project outcomes for Victoria and as a result, improving Victoria's long term sustainability and environment.

Do you have any advice about life after study to pass on to current students?

  • Find your passion and go as hard to achieve worthwhile goals that fulfill that passion
  • Believe in yourself, your intuition and your training
  • Know that higher education is a privilege to be used and not a laurel to be rested upon
  • Not be frightened to forge new directions
  • Commit to lifelong acquisition of knowledge
  • Never give up on your dreams
