Laffey, Catherine

Catherine LaffeyCatherine started work with the School of Mines and Industries Ballarat as a Teacher in Social and Community Services in 1992. She was employed by SMB and its successor institutions until her retirement in June 2014.

Catherine was a very engaged member of the Ballarat community. She served as a member of Ballarat City Council and stood for election to the Victorian Legislative Council in 1996. She also served on the University Council.

Catherine was promoted to Head of Welfare and Family Studies in 1997 and became Head of the School of Human Services in 2007.

In 2011 Catherine became Senior Adviser to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) with responsibility for developing the University's activities in the Melton, Bacchus Marsh and Wyndham areas.

Catherine Laffey passed away on 17 July, 2016 after a long illness. Our thoughts go out to Catherine’s family and friends.
