New Federation University learning space welcomes back Brisbane students

Posted: Thursday 3 September 2020

A modern new floor is greeting Queensland students as they begin their calculated and cautious transition to on-site learning at Federation University Australia.

With the new inclusion of the eighth floor, the Brisbane Campus now spans six floors of the Ann Street building.

It provides an extension to existing teaching and learning spaces, with purpose-built study areas, new lecture theatres and IT labs.

Students were welcomed into the new facilities last week, when the gradual transition back to campus began.

Federation University students have been attending online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March.

The University partnered with Conrad Garget for interior design, Schiavello Constructions for the fit out, and Goldi, whose previous work on the lower floors won the Melbourne Design Award for environmental graphic design.

The environmental graphics used throughout the campus have been continued throughout the new floor.

Schiavello plans to enter the project into the Master Builders Queensland Housing and Construction Awards for 2021, while Goldi will submit the design for the Workspace Awards for commercial and residential interior design.

Quotes attributable to Federation University Executive Director Brisbane Campus Alexandra Elibank Murray

It is exciting to be able to welcome students back to the campus and introduce them to this new space that will enhance their learning experience.

We believe it is important to create modern and practical areas that make Federation University’s Brisbane Campus an attractive and effective place for students to return to after spending recent months learning remotely. The new floor will also make a comfortable space to enhance our industry collaborations.”
