Federation nominated for Wurreker Awards

Posted: Monday 16 September 2019

Federation University Australia’s commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment has been recognised by being nominated as a finalist in the 2019 Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Wurreker Awards.

The University has been nominated for the Innovative Koorie Learner Pathways – TAFE Award, which it won last year for the first time in 16 years.

The University also has been named as a finalist in the 2019 Wurreker Awards in the Public Sector Employer Award category.

The Wurreker Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander post-compulsory education and training.

The Awards are an important part of the University’s approach to growing success in education and training. They also are a celebration of how high quality training can open up new directions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Wurreker Awards recognise Public Sector Employers who have made a demonstrable contribution to the employment and development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, built their organisation’s capacities to engage with the community and provide a culturally safe workplace or are recognised by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as leaders in the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their organisations.

The award winners will be announced at the Aborigines Advancement League, Thornbury, on Thursday, 19 September.
