Federation University Australia has welcomed the Victorian Government’s announcement of $1.1 million under the Regional and Specialist Training Fund (RSTF) for five projects at its FedUni TAFE campus in Horsham.

Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney made the announcement while officially opening a new hot house that was built as part of the funding package.

The hot house will provide horticulture students enrolled in the Certificate III with better facilities and training experiences.

The funding has also allowed FedUni TAFE to deliver a traineeship in partnership with West Wimmera Health Services in Nhill that allows Individual Support Certificate students who are studying aged and disability care to work and earn an income while they learn.

It will also allow early childhood education and care courses to be delivered at the Horsham campus from next year, helping to meet the demand from local employers for qualified childcare staff.

FedUni TAFE has also used the funding to further develop online learning programs for students doing the Certificate II in Electrotechnology, which paves the way for a career in the electrical and telecommunications industry.

Federation TAFE has around 288 students at its Horsham campus and is the largest vocational education and training provider in western Victoria.
