Students from Federation College aim to recruit nearly 300 people to float on pool noodles in a campaign to highlight the risks of drowning in Australia.

 “A total of 291 people died last year due to drowning in Australian waters. In 2008 the Australian Water Safety Council set an ambitious goal of reducing drowning by 50 per cent by 2020,” Rebecca Absalom, Teacher at Federation College, said.

“To publicise this campaign the students of Federation College want to break the record of the amount of people floating on pool noodles simultaneously.

“The students aim to get 291 people involved to break the record in order to create an accurate visual representation of how many people died drowning last year.”

Staff, students, family and friends are invited to participate in breaking this record on Tuesday 23 October. They must be over 16 years of age to take part.
