University welcomes new Dean of Science, Engineering and Information Technology

Federation University Australia is pleased to announce Professor Syed Islam as the new Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology.

Professor Islam joins the University from Curtin University where he was Dean of International Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

He was also the founding Director of the Centre for Smart Grid and Sustainable Power Systems at Curtin and a John Curtin Distinguished Professor of Electrical Power Engineering.

“I am delighted to join Federation University Australia at this exciting time in its development,” Professor Islam said.

“I look forward to working with our excellent staff and students throughout all of our campuses.” 

Professor Islam was awarded a PhD in Electrical Engineering by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and has built a distinguished international research record, including leadership of two Cooperative Research Centres.

“Professor Islam has strong strategic leadership experience and has won a number of awards in teaching and research. We are delighted to have him on board,” Professor Helen Bartlett, Vice-Chancellor, said.
