Posted: Tuesday 28 August 2018

The high quality of Federation University Australia’s TAFE programs has been confirmed at the Victorian Training Awards.

FedUni TAFE won awards in three categories. Winners were selected across 13 categories for individuals, employers, training providers and industry collaboration.

Alyssa Heard, a former Commercial Cookery and now Patisserie student from Federation University Australia, was named Victorian Apprentice of the Year and People’s Choice Award Winner.

“I am so excited and honoured to accept the Apprentice of the Year Award and to have taken out the people’s choice award as well is amazing,” Alyssa said.

“I have been working in hospitality since I was 15 and for some time my dream has been to be a chef.

“The training I received at FedUni has been fantastic. I cannot thank FedUni enough for all that they have done for me particularly the support and guidance I have received from my teacher Nicole Brudenall.”

Tim Cronin from Chalambar Golf Club, said: “We are so excited to have had the opportunity to work with Alyssa, she has been a wonderful employee, a real team player and has a promising future ahead of her.”

Alyssa will now go on to represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards.

Nazareth Care won the Employer Award for Apprentice Development in partnership with FedUni TAFE. Trainees working for Nazareth Care have undertaken the Certificate III in Individual Support at Nazareth House in Ballarat.

Desiree Doherty from Nazareth Care, said: “This award means a lot to the entire Nazareth House team and it supports our mission to support the community, and the FedUni teacher Brenda has been a wonderful support to our students.”

“I am extremely pleased to congratulate Alyssa Heard and Nazareth Care for being presented with these three outstanding awards,” Associate Professor Barry Wright, Executive Director of FedUni TAFE, said.

“Our success in these three categories is testimony to our excellent students and staff.

“We look forward to mentoring and training even more outstanding TAFE students in the future.”
