December graduation ceremonies to celebrate FedUni students

Posted: Wednesday 6 December 2017

A new group of business, education, arts, science and health students from Federation University Australia will graduate at the Mt Helen Campus this week.

More than 600 students will graduate over four ceremonies in Founders Hall.

“This week's graduation ceremonies are a highlight of the year for the graduands and their families and for the broader university community,” Claire Shaw, University Registrar, said.

“We wish our graduating students every future success as they embark on the next stage of their lives.”

The University Medal is the highest academic award that can be bestowed on a graduating student by the University.

This year’s University Medallist is Sofia Mae Neri Sabas. Ms Sabas is a graduate of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) program and maintained an extremely high academic record throughout her studies.

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) program includes the opportunity to obtain a scholarship and complete an internship with IBM while studying which Ms Sabas successfully received and undertook.

At the Wednesday morning ceremony eminent engineer and hydrogeologist Professor Rae Mackay from the Gippsland Campus was granted the title Emeritus Professor.

Ballarat community leader and leading accountant Mr Colin Prowse was awarded an honorary doctorate at the Wednesday afternoon ceremony.

The first graduation ceremony was primarily focused upon graduands from the Faculty of Science and Technology. The second ceremony focused on FedUni TAFE, Faculty of Education and Arts, and Faculty of Health graduands.

Two further ceremonies will be held on Thursday, 7 December. Commencing at 10.30 am and 3.00 pm, the ceremonies will focus on graduands from Federation Business School across all campuses, including those from our partner provider network.

Interviews and pictures with FedUni graduates can be arranged.
