FedUni centre stage in Cycling Australia Road National Championships route

Posted: Monday 20 November 2017

Federation University Australia is delighted that the route for the Cycling Australia Road National Championships will travel through its Mt Helen Campus.

The event, to be held from 3 to 7 January, promises to be one of the major national cycling fixtures of the summer.

“As naming rights partner for this premier cycling event we are delighted that FedUni will feature so prominently along the route,” Professor Helen Bartlett, Vice-Chancellor, said.

“Spectators will be able to enjoy the sights of our Mt Helen Campus as well as the course through Buninyong and surrounding areas.

“We are pleased to work with Cycling Australia to make these championships a major drawcard for Ballarat and FedUni.”

Part of the race route will see cyclists turn into the University’s East Terrace from Gear Ave and then proceed to Residence Drive and University Drive. The route will go through Ballarat Technology Park before it returns to Gear Ave.

“FedUni is renowned for its Exercise Sciences and Physiology programs, so it is fitting we should be hosting this sterling event,” Professor Bartlett said.

The Road National Championships are credited with delivering significant economic and social benefits to the Ballarat region, attracting thousands of visitors over summer.

The 2018 championships will finish on Super Sunday with the elite road races and an all new community recreational ride.
