Posted: Tuesday 3 October 2017

Victoria’s foremost University for Sport Sciences has partnered with Cycling Australia for the delivery of the Road National Championships in Ballarat for the next three years.

Federation University Australia was appointed naming rights partner of the prestigious cycling event, which in 2018 will mark 12 consecutive years of being held in Ballarat.

The partnership agreement was announced in Melbourne by Cycling Australia Chief Executive Officer, Nick Green OAM and Chairman, Steve Bracks AC, a distinguished Alumnus of the University.

Federation University Australia Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Bartlett, said the University was thrilled to be partnering with Cycling Australia to deliver one of the most anticipated road races on the cycling calendar.

“Our University has a well-earned reputation for its Exercise Sciences and Physiology programs and this partnership provides a unique opportunity for our students to observe all aspects of the cycling event, and to explore possible career outcomes of their qualifications,” Professor Bartlett said.

“The University looks forward to exploring research, training and volunteering opportunities with Cycling Australia over the course of the three year contract.”

Mr Bracks said it was a perfect time for FedUni to come on board as the iconic Road Nats returns to Ballarat for a twelfth consecutive year with an invigorated new format.

“I’m delighted to be announcing such a terrific partnership,” Mr Bracks said.

“The Cycling Australia Road National Championships is one of the premier events on the cycling calendar, and it takes place right on the doorstep of the University’s Mt Helen Campus.”

The University’s contribution as the naming rights partner includes cash and in-kind components including access to its sports training facilities for the duration of the event.

The Road National Championships are credited with delivering significant economic and social benefits to the Ballarat region, attracting thousands of visitors over summer.

The 2018 championships will finish on Super Sunday with the elite road races and an all new community recreational ride.
