FedUni celebrates Refresh Art Prize in Gippsland

Posted: Wednesday 24 May 2017

Federation University Australia’s Gippsland Centre for Art and Design will again celebrate the region’s emerging visual artists through the Refresh Art Prize.

Refresh showcases and celebrates the creative work of Gippsland VCE art students and their schools.

This prestigious award, with a total prize pool of $5,000, aims to amplify and champion the significant work happening in visuals arts programs across local secondary schools.

"Our renewed energy and focus at GCAD opens up new possibilities for the region. We passionately believe young people should pursue careers in visual and performing arts. Refresh celebrates the artistic vitality of our region’s VCE students," Bryce Ives, GCAD Director, said.

"We hope local teachers and parents strongly encourage students to pursue their creative ability. There has never been a more important time to ensure young creative thinkers and artists thrive."

In addition to the prize money available selected works will be publicly exhibited at the university’s Switchback Gallery. All students who take part will have a valuable addition to their resumes and a strengthened portfolio as a result. Last year, Ali Taylor of Gippsland Grammar took out the first prize of $2,000 with a stunning black and white abstract painting.

"I’m looking forward to seeing some exciting and original entries again this year that reflect the depth and diversity of our local young talent. The prize money and recognition that comes with this competition can help energise an emerging career,” Clive Hutchison, GCAD Creative Arts lecturer, said.

An independent panel will judge the award and announcements of the winners will be made at the University’s Open Day in late August.

Entries close on Friday, 4 August.

It is important students see their art teacher for entry and submission details or download information from the Federation University Australia website at https://federation.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/345842/FedU_FEA_ArtPrize_2ppA4_2017_030517.pdf
