Position: Director – Federation College
Associate Professor Shirley Fraser was appointed Director of Federation College in 2013, after an extensive career as Head of Western Campuses with the University of Ballarat overseeing five campuses including two educational sites at Hopkins and Langi Kal Kal Prisons. Prior to this, Shirley held a number of senior VET positions in which she led initiatives to improve quality in VET delivery and broader institutional performance.
Shirley wants the college she leads to be recognised as the provider of alternative pathways which supports individual choices and meets the support needs of students to successfully complete their studies.
Shirley has extensive experience in providing leadership to support improvements in the College's performance and the provision of support services for education and training initiatives. Her commitment to Federation University Australia is to build the business performance of Federation College through engagement with staff, open individuals to challenge themselves by responding to customer needs in innovative ways.
Shirley holds an MBA and a Graduate Certificate in Business. She is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Shirley has had an extensive career managing Correction Victoria Education at Hopkins and Langi Kal Kal. She brings a wealth of experience to the area of occupational health and safety, having managed and led many innovative projects, whilst advocating for prison education change which is often a lengthy road and agrees that more can be done.
Associate Professor Fraser is also a member of the European Prison Education Association.
