Biography

Charles has been involved in the teaching and coordination of tertiary law subjects since 1993.

Prior to joining Federation Business School in 2018, Charles was an academic with Victoria University.  From 2010 to 2017, amongst other roles, Charles coordinated and delivered a range of Priestly 11 subjects in the Bachelor of Laws degree, as well as various commercial law units in the Bachelor of Business degree and Master of Business Administration degree (including off-shore delivery programs). From 2003 to 2010, Chares coordinated and delivered a range of law subjects (including being the program team leader) in the Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice course.  Charles received staff recognition awards at VU for teaching excellence in the legal practice programs in 2008 and 2009. Charles’ commitment to industry and community engagement was recognised with the conferral in 2015 of a staff award for outstanding contribution and excellence in industry engagement.

Charles has worked as a legal practitioner in Victoria and in South Australia. He is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Vic., SA. & NT., and in all Commonwealth courts in Australia. Charles is admitted as a Graduate Fellow of the College of Law Ltd (FCL). Charles maintains the currency of his practising certificate and membership of various associations within the legal and tertiary teaching professions.

Charles has a strong interest in aviation law, and in civil aviation domestically and abroad. He is presently pursuing PhD research within an area involving a comparative law analysis of civil aviation governance and sustainability between Australia and China.  Charles is on the executive committee of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (ALAANZ) Victoria Branch, and is the student membership coordinator for the ALAANZ national council. Charles is the co-founder and a co-convener of the Australia and New Zealand Air Law Moot. In 2015 Charles was elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Aeronautical Association and admitted as an Associate Member of the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.

At a community level, Charles is a volunteer with the Life's Little Treasures Foundation, the Compassionate Friends Victoria Inc., and is an Australian representative of Twinless Twins Inc. Charles enjoys parenthood and being a parent helper at his daughter’s school.
