The Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimization (CIAO) is a designated research centre within the School of Engineering and Information Technology.

CIAO researchers have performed research projects funded to the value of many millions of dollars in recent years involving internet security, mathematical optimization, computational intelligence, data mining and health informatics.
