Biography

Dr Francine Marques completed her BSc in 2005, obtaining first class Honours in Genetics, and a Master degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2006, both at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (ranked the best university in Brazil). She was awarded her PhD in 2012 at the University of Sydney, in the field of the molecular genetics of hypertension with Prof Brian Morris. Since Oct 2011, she has been working at the formerly University of Ballarat as a postdoctoral researcher in the Collaborative Research Network, under supervision of Prof Fadi Charchar. In Jan 2012 she was awarded a competitive National Health and Medical Research Council Peter Doherty and Heart Foundation co-shared early career fellowship to study heart enlargement. Her research interests are the early origins of cardiovascular disease, through the study of molecular genetics, in particular the role of non-coding RNAs.
