Self-Conscious: Contemporary Portraiture
Wed 18 May - Thu 23 Jun 2011
Portraiture allows us to dwell on one of the most fascinating subjects - ourselves.
The act of self reflection and the study of others through portraiture can variously be fraught, humorous or enlightening. Featuring a wide range of works drawn from the Monash University Collection, this exhibition explored the many ways in which artists approach contemporary portraiture and represent different modes of identity and philosophical address. Artists included Fiona McMonagle, David Rosetzsky, Ronnie van Hout, Mike Parr, Linda Marrinon, Matthew Griffin, Simryn Gill, James Lynch, Eliza Hutchison and Mutlu Çerkez.
