2010 artist-in-residence at Gippsland Medical School and Gippsland Centre for Art & Design

Natalie Ryan is an installation artist whose practice engages with anatomical drawing and body reconstruction through sculpture and installation. Natalie was artist in residence at Gippsland Centre for Art and Design and the Gippsland Medical School in 2010 interacting with both Art and Design and Medical students and staff and creating sculptures and installations during the residency.

In this exhibition, through a series of works that depicted the cadavers of young animals, the artist examined premature death, a loss that has not come with the typical onset of age. The cadaver that remains, says Ryan, "becomes a shadow of the being, a mere essence of what once was. Void of colour and life the body becomes a dead space where only death now dwells."

Installation by Natalie Ryan.
