Biography

Majida Mehana received her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in Early Childhood Education and minors in Statistics and in Human Development and Family Studies. She taught curriculum and instruction, early childhood education, human development, research design, educational statistics, and practicum courses to BA and Teaching Diploma students of different backgrounds and in multicultural settings including US, Lebanon, and Gulf countries.

At Federation University Australia, in addition to lecturing, Majida is a Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) program and a Course Coordinator for early childhood courses: “Teacher as Researcher” and “Language and Multiliteracies”.

With regards to research, Majida was involved in the evaluation of early intervention programs. Specifically, she was involved as a Co-Principal Investigator for the Center for Schools and Communities in Harrisburg, USA, where she evaluated the support services in 47 family centres affiliated with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and managed a three-year data set. She was also a Field Evaluator for the Keystone University Research Corporation Child Care Training System in Pennsylvania, USA, where she assessed program quality in centre- and home-based care. She administered the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale and interviewed centre- and home- based care directors and teachers. She is interested in getting involved in evaluation research in Australian settings and has presented at the Early Childhood Australia Conference on “Early interventions in Australia for diverse children and families: How effective are they?”.
