Creative arts research

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

— T.S. Eliot, “Little Gidding”

Taking an ‘evocative’ approach to research and embracing ‘a sense of place’ Creative Arts Research (CAR) encourages a diverse, practice-led research focus. CAR nurtures the creation of quality artworks and creative research outcomes while fostering communication, partnership and the generation of new knowledge. The developing narrative of CAR emerges from embodied creative practices and engages actively with issues of regionality. It is one that, in time, will gather meaning and generate unexpected couplings and outcomes within SEA, across the University, nationally and internationally.

Areas of exploration and development

  1. Artist in residency program: CAR aims to facilitate an artist in residency program that will articulate and foster knowledge through art-making and the practical application of creative processes. The program is designed to make connections beyond the Arts Academy and to contribute across research and teaching and learning within SEA and across the University into the wider community.
  2. Developing partnerships: CAR aims to identify and create partnerships within the region , with other Universities, with business, arts and community organizations locally, in Australia and internationally.
  3. Enabling the development of a productive, sustainable research dynamic: CAR supports mentoring arrangements for new appointments within SEA and for ECR and HDR students e-research: CAR aims to facilitate understanding of the structures and capacities of e-research including the commercial development of research outcomes.
