Nursing Session 1

  • Introduction to degree structure – program coordinators
  • Introduction to courses
  • Professional Behaviours
  • Inherent Behaviours

An introduction to your nursing courses for both flexible and face-to-face students.  You will mix with your peers and become familiar with your program by meeting academic teaching staff for each course. The teacher will then guide you through the appropriate Moodle sites, briefly outline the course expectations and assessment tasks as well as discuss inherent and professional placement behaviour standards.

This session will introduce you to the clinical, laboratory and online learning spaces. It will include discussion around student code of conduct, responsibilities and expectations, on-line study etiquette as well as laboratory requirements and learning experiences.  You will be shown how to engage with your class and academic teaching staff through the use of Moodle discussion forum and virtual classrooms in the computer lab as well as orientation to the nursing and science labs. Gaining a thorough understanding of Moodle is particularly vital for those students studying via flexible delivery.

  1. Covering/reiterating cultural aspects of communication and linking to idea that development of effective study skills can enhance academic and professional success.
  2. Introducing students to requirement and raising awareness of expectations around Writing, Oral Presentations, Digital Literacy, Research and Referencing, and Independent Learning *Includes writing lesson plan session*
Study Skills and Time Management session – how to cope at University (as Time Management is seen as an essential skill for university and professional success, and good study skills and habits facilitate good time management).

Nursing Session 3
Continuation of morning session.

  1. Overview of services available at Federation University – based on generic Study Skills Essentials modules, but delivered interactively.
  2. Study Skills Q&A – reinforcing what was learned in session 3, providing Study Skills further opportunity to promote their services (online and face to face) available throughout semester, and to enable students to have a bit of unstructured time asking questions – we will investigate using another study skills team member to support this session.
