Where are you now?

Finishing up my Bachelor of Food & Nutritional Sciences at the end of 2016, I'm moving into a full-time role in food safety and quality assurance for a company that produces bakery products. It's an exciting new role which will allow me to break into my discipline, while also providing a regional setting for me to pursue my passion of community engagement.

What leadership/volunteering did you do at uni? What did you get out of it?

Choosing FedUni happened for a number of reasons, the main one of which was the extra time I would have to get involved in everything that was happening by choosing a Uni that I wouldn't need to commute a long way to! Throughout my three years, the Leadership & Volunteering @ FedUni team have helped me to take advantage of as much as possible and build me into a graduate with the skills and passion to take on the world!

Some of my favourite volunteering & leadership opportunities included:

  • FedUni Schools Outreach: Travelling Victoria with other awesome FedUni students to share our experiences with students in regional areas was a great way to make friends and give back to fantastic communities.
  • Enactus FedUni: An global entrepreneurial initiative, bringing together business, academic and student leaders to create lasting social impact for identified needs in our local and global communities.
  • MSRF Coaching & Mentoring: Facilitating the biannual MSRF young rural leaders programme and supporting rural students in their transition to Uni through a regular mentoring program has given me a great insight into successful youth engagement strategies.
  • Student Senate: Vice-Chair, Mt Helen HE Representative & Communications Portfolio throughout a 2-year term supporting positive changes for the student experience. FedUni Marketing Ambassador: Helping prospective students out on Open Days, on-campus events, year 12 info sessions and more to see the great opportunities at FedUni.

Through Leadership & Volunteering @ FedUni I've had great opportunities to attend 3 different nationally recognised conferences across Australia, participate in and facilitate a leadership camp, multiple workshops & the annual conferences as well as developing a network of students & staff that will continue to be invaluable throughout the years to come!
