Annual Student Diary Cover Design Competition

The Annual Student Diary Cover Design Competition is open for the 2018 diaries. It is a unique opportunity for students to have their creative work published, and win $500 in gift cards in the process.

The annual design prize, gives students the opportunity to be rewarded for their creative skills and get involved in student life by redesigning the student diary cover. FedUni is proudly offering this opportunity to our students in 2017 and we need your creativity.

If you would like the opportunity for your design to be published on 18,000 student diaries, then get creating - there are no set guidelines for the artwork: it can be illustrations, photography, graphics, infographics, typography, art, paint, sketches...absolutely anything!

Make your student diary what you want it to be. Submit your design and entry form by 5pm, Sunday 10 September 2017 to to be in the running.

Design brief

Please consider using this PDF template (pdf, 98kb) or EPS file (721kb) to assist you in crafting your design within the following brief parameters:

  1. Designs should reflect the theme “Your FedGen experience”
  2. Only one design per student should be submitted.
  3. Include the words "Student Diary 2018" in the design.
  4. A5 size design - 148mm W x 210mm H + 5mm bleed at high resolution .PDF for print (300dpi or higher). Four colour process (CMYK). All type must be outlined.
  5. Allow for 10mm area on the left which will have holes punched through it for spiral binding and artwork must account for logos on the bottom, space of 15mm.
  6. Designs may include 2D design, graphic, photography, photographs of other art works including sculpture, pottery, textiles etc that will reflect the.
  7. Cannot contain any offensive and/or derogatory images or text.

By entering the competition, all Entrants will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions.
The Terms and Conditions of this Promotion are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria.

Entry is only open to current (at the time of Promotion) Federation University Australia students who are aged 18 years and older. If You are under 18 years old as at the start date of the promotion, You are required to obtain your legal guardian's permission to enter. You may only enter one submission piece in the Promotion; multiple entries will not be accepted. The entry must be an original piece produced by You and all elements contained in the entry must be created by You only. If Your work contains images, recordings or details of other individuals, You must obtain a signed ‘Participant Consent and Waiver Form’ for all individuals identified in Your entry.

This Promotion is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winner. Each entry will be individually judged, based upon individual creative merit. All entries must be an independent creation by the Entrant and free of any claims that they infringe any third party rights. Entries must not have been published previously and/or have been used to win prizes in any other promotions.

The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any Entrant who tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions.

The Promoter accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries.

Promotion commences 0900 AEST on Monday 14 August 2017. Promotion closes Sunday 1700 AEST on 10 September 2017 (the Promotion Period).

The judging will be conducted by a professional panel and the winning Entrant will be voted from the finalists at Federation University’s Student Connect Offices between 18 September 2017 and 6 October 2017. The winning Entrant will be one that receives the most votes during this time period. The winning Entrant will be announced and reposted on the official Federation University Australia (/FedUniAustralia) Facebook page and will also be notified via private message (email) within 24 hours. Judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

To enter, Entrant’s must submit their Artwork as a 148mm W x 210mm H plus 5mm bleed high resolution (300 dpi or higher) .PDF image as per Design Brief. Entrants must email their Artwork and Participant Consent and Waiver Form (if applicable) to along with the Entrants’ name, student ID, course code and a short statement about the Artwork and how it represents the theme “Your FedGen Experience”. All Artwork must be able to be replicated on CMYK off-set printing process (e.g. vector or at least 300dpi pdf).

The winning Entrant will receive gift vouchers to the value of AUD $500.00 incl. GST. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation in the prize value. Prizes, or any unused portion of a prize, are non-transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. In the event that a prize, or an element of a prize, is/are not available, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute prize(s) in its discretion to the same and equal recommended retail value and/or specification subject to any written directions from the various lottery Departments.

If this Promotion is not capable of running as planned, for example, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupts or affect the administration security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and, subject to any written directions given by the various Lottery Departments, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion.

The Promoter is not responsible for any issues or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, or traffic congestion on the Internet or on any web page, or any combination thereof, (including but not limited to) any injury or damage to participants or any other person's computer, related to or resulting from, participation in, or downloading of, any materials in this Promotion.

Any costs associated with entering this Promotion and/or accessing the Federation University Australia Facebook page is the Entrant's responsibility and is dependent on the Internet Service Provider used.

The Promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered, either indirectly or via consequential loss, for personal injury suffered or sustained, as a result of participating in this Promotion or accepting any of the prizes, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

In the event of war, terrorism, state of emergency or disaster the Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion.

The Promoter shall not be liable for any prizes and/or merchandise that is lost, stolen, forged, damaged or tampered with in any way.
All entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the promotional database and not at the time of transmission by the entrant.

The Promoter collects Entrants' personal information in order to conduct the Promotion. If the information requested is not provided, the Entrant may not participate in the Promotion. Entry into the Promotion, unless otherwise advised, allows the Promoter to use personal information in any media for the purpose of public announcements If they are a winning entrant, without any further reference, payment or other compensation to the entrant, including sending the entrant electronic or personal messages. Entrants' personal information may be disclosed to State and Territory lottery departments and names of winning entrants may be published, as required, under the relevant lottery legislation. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Promoter at their address set out below. Consent by the Entrants includes use by the Promoter of the Entrant's name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are a winning entrant (incl. photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period of time without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this Promotion (including any outcome), and promoting any services or products manufactured, distributed and/or supplied by the Promoter.

The Promoter reserves the right to request winning Entrants to provide proof of age, identity and residency at the nominated prize delivery address. Identification considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Promoter.
