Leadbeater's possum recovery program (2014-2015)

Leadbeater possumIn January 2014, the government accepted recommendations from the Leadbeater's Possum Advisory Group on ways to support the recovery of the Leadbeater's possum, whilst maintaining a sustainable timber industry.

The Leadbeaters Possum Implementation Committee produced a series of recommendations in relation to publishing a range of historic, current and future research, information and data on aspects of the Leadbeater’s possum population, habitat and management online. The Department of Environment and Primary Industry (DEPI) wishes to implement the recommendations through development and implementation of either an embedded web mapping interface on the DEPI Environment and Wildlife pages or through a dedicated Leadbeater’s possum mapping portal.

The research and technology approaches that will be used by the Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) in implementing the Leadbeater’s possum mapping portal, have the potential to overcome challenges associated with the process of linking high quality data and research for optimal knowledge sharing.
